Rev. Shauncey D. Hatten, Sr.
Reflections as a Pastor of South Phoenix Missionary Baptist Church.

Never, in a million years when I accepted the invitation to become South Phoenix's pastor, did I dream this job would hold so many blessings, so many losses, so much laughter, sweat, and tears. I was unprepared for the overwhelming response to preaching about the Kingdom of God.
I have been humbled by people's generosity, honesty, and openness, as well as by their love of neighbor, expressed in service. I've been ministered to by people's prayers and inspired by their journey with God. It has been a privilege to share this year with South Phoenix. Thank you.
Thank you for your patience with me, for your willingness to try new ideas, and for your ongoing welcome of strangers, many of whom have become family. Thank you for shouldering one another's burdens and sharing one another's joys. Thank you for being awesome cooks. Thank you for teaching, singing, playing, giving, cleaning, planting, counting, throwing out, praying, greeting, ushering, and serving. Thank you for opening your hearts and homes to me and for being an incredible blessing, “pressed down, shaken together, and running over”. I am forever grateful.

This is only the beginning!
My Journey
A native son of Phoenix Arizona, Shauncey D. Hatton Sr., began his journey with Christ at just three years of age, when he joined the South Phoenix Missionary Baptist Church. He was baptized later that year on October 2, 1988, by Reverend Doctor Bernard Black, who would later become his father in the ministry. Shauncey used his gift of singing on the Angel Choir, Sunshine Band, and the Youth Choir. At seventeen years of age, he accepted the call on his life and began his work in ministry.
Shauncey graduated from Cesar Chavez High School and continued his education at Phoenix College, with a concentration in General Studies. While serving the South Phoenix Missionary Baptist Church, teaching, preaching, and praying, he also attended Life Point Christian University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Biblical Theology. He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Theology.
While diligently working in almost every auxiliary and ministry in the church, to include singing in and directing the Bernard Black Voices for Christ Choir, he continued to gain experience, conduct Kingdom work and obtain biblical knowledge. Under the tutelage and guidance of his spiritual father Reverend Doctor Bernard Black, he was licensed and ordained to preach. He was eventually chosen to serve as Dr. Black's armorbearer, and the head associate minister of the pulpit.
Shauncey is a son, brother, cousin, and father, who is a baptized, born again, believer in the Lord Jesus Christ chosen by God to shepherd this flock.
